Command

A 5 track dubstep ep (24m 19s) — released October 29th 2012 on Civil Music

'Command' is the first taste of Starkey's new album 'Orbits'. The release features remixes from Plastician, Drums of Death, Pedro123, Noisses, DS1 + exclusive bonus track 'Contact'.

Starkey says "Command is my nod to what I've always liked about dubstep & grime music". Trademark angular robo-funk growing from synthetic chords and the glitching vocal shards that makes Command so recognizable and leaves no doubt this is Starkey's outrageously tight production at it's most electrifying. A 'Pulse X' style kick makes ways for a yet bigger, wider synth lead that swerves from kinetic peaks to industrial ruffness and heartburst emotion practically every 16 bars.

Command's remix package includes revisions from both established original bass pioneers and restless young guns; all carrying their flame for grime, bass and uk pirate music enthusiasts worldwide. Grime and dubstep pioneer Plastician provides one of his rare production outings with his 'Trapped in the Middle' Remix. A rude 8-bar cut, its's grimy, ruffneck '04 bizness from the Croydon OG, Rinse/1Xtra/BBC R1 legend and Terrorhythm Imprint owner. Drums of Death continues on the stunning form of his 'Waves Trilogy' - refined dancefloor tension, jacking techno, intergalactic jazz and synthetic leads - it's still 'Command' but retooled with euphoric rave-influenced '90s House vibes.18 year old OTW grime producer Pedro123 is making waves, releasing a handful of underground 12" heaters, supported by Starkey, Skream & Benga, Roska, Brackles & more. His remix is sweet-but-dangerous neo-grime, a stack of fun its cheekily switches between heavy duty bass infused kicks and sped up old skool garage riddims. Stripped down Eski-style 8-bar rhythmic swerve to excite the dance with.

Noisses is another producer on the rise, a series of releases for the Black Butter label have showcased his super-optimised sound making him another perfect addition to the package. Reconfiguring Command with UKG machinations served snappy, tough and lean his remix is elastically dynamic, balancing soulful grit and rolling club vibes with the hyper energies of the originals Grimey synth arrangements. Sheffield's DS1 is an original 4/4 Bassline innovator who showcased his sounds at Sheffield's legendary bassline spawning 'Niche' club alongside DJ Q and T2. Maintaining much of Command's original feel he makes full use of the radioactive stabs, sub heavy bass and surging synth, making a trap hiphop/grime crossover with maximum club impact. 'Contact' closes the package - exclusive bonus track that does not feature on the Orbits LP it shows another of the many sides to Starkey's music and forms an epic and reflective closer for the package.

'Command' is taken from 'Orbits', the 3rd studio album from the prolific Philadelphia producer. Paul Geissinger (or PJ to his friends) released 2008's 'Ephemeral Exhibits' and 2010's 'Ear Drums and Black Holes' on the Planet Mu Label. Both received critical acclaim and showcased his unique take on Grime and Bass music. He subsequently released the 'Space Traitor' series on Civil Music and his genre spanning 'Open the Pod Bay Doors EP' on Ninja Tune. Starkey's music brims with big synths and bigger drums. Hard-edged hip-hop and scything bass mix, at times, mix with almost classical compositions and element, but it's Grime that remains at the forefront of his sound, ever more so on 'Orbits'

Since his last album Starkey has been doing production work for Tinie Tempah and Foreign Beggars, worked with Kosheen's Sian Evans and released several collaborations with one time Roll Deep member Trim. 'Command' also gets the Trim treatment appearing as "Light Years" featuring on the MC's collaboration release with Roachee, "The Nangesst EP" which is out now. P Money, Badness, Durrty Goodz, Kozzie and Merky Ace have also manned the mics for Starkey on releases for 'No Hats No Hoods' & 'Keysound' amongst others. These collabs sit in his extensive catalog of releases which also includes wax for Werk Discs, Lo Dubs, Rwina and more.

Command is released on 5th November in the UK and 12th November Worldwide on 12" Vinyl & Download. Orbits is released 26th November 2012 on Double Vinyl, CD & Download, All feature premium UV gloss spot artwork by Pete Hawkes.
