Black Waves

A 4 track house ep (18m 16s) — released July 11th 2011 on Civil Music

Black Waves is 4 tracks of deep, dark club music.

Since the release of his critically acclaimed album "Generation Hexed", Drums of Death has been obsessively developing a deeper and darker sound that is tailored for the dance-floor. Black Waves fuses frantic 808 drum patterns and dramatic synth lines with fresh, contemplative melodies. It's music born out of its maker's passion for techno and house.

Black Waves opens with "Cold Lazarus" an intense 4 minute ride of classic techno taken to its intense conclusion. Strings derived from his raucous live show build tension before the track spirals out of control descending into a frenzied, audio assault. Further high-end club tendencies are delivered on "I Can't Take It". Drenched with early 90's rave influence, it's house music looking forward at 135 beats per minute. Urgent soul vocals, torn apart and carried along by rattling snares.

"Lost Highway" is melodic with a deep London sound. It's emotive synths mix with rolling toms andpitched vocal shards. Still designed for the club it shows a more considered side to the Drums of Death sound. A subtlety that is also present in the romantic, emotional flourishes of closing track "Love's Labour's Lost". Here arpeggiated synths build while chords and strings mix with clarinets and heavy subs to make an almost baroque 2-step hybrid.

Drums Of Death is the alter-ego of Colin Bailey and as his renowned and energetic live performances go from strength to strength and take him round the world he has continually exceeded all expectations.

Drums of Death emerged from London's club scene in early 2008 and signed to Joe Goddard from Hot Chip's record label and party crew, Greco-Roman. He released a series of sold out 12"s that preceded his universally applauded debut album "Generation Hexed". Tours with Peaches & Hot Chip, remixes for Drop The Lime, Tricky, Kele, Franz Ferdinand, Fenech-Soler, Steve Mason, Hot Chip and more. Co-writing the title track of Peaches' album "I Feel Cream". Regularly delivering diverse mixes for RA, Clash, XL Recordings and for radio shows around the world. Curating stages at one festival and headlining the next, sessions for BBC Introducing, being nominated DJ Mag's "Breakthrough producer of the year", twice featuring in Dazed & Confused's "Greatest Electronic Songs of the Decade" and gracing the cover of IDJ. That has been the Drums of Death story so far...;...;...;...;...;...;...;...;. but voodoo, hype and face paint aside, Black Waves showcases a producer moving forward. For Drums of Death it's the beginning of something new.
